Views over the Zócalo from the bell-towers
Mexico City's Cathedral has 36 bells in its two massive towers which ring out at certain times of the day. Sometimes it's possible to have a guided tour to learn all about them and have a bird's-eye-view over the Zócalo. The volunteer bell-ringers explain about the bell that was punished and many other anecdotes. To get up to the bell-towers, you have to climb an 18th Century spiral staircase with 68 steps and walk across the roof of the Cathedral. After the 2017 earthquake which damaged lots of buildings in the Centro Histórico, the visits were suspended.
