Local markets, traditions, crafts and painted churches
The Central Valleys of Oaxaca are home to small villages each specializing in popular art and handicrafts such as black pottery, hand-woven rugs or brightly-painted alebrijes. It is also the area which produces mezcal, a spirit made by fermenting maguey plants, and there are bustling markets and painted churches in many of the towns.
Several major archaeological sites like Monte Alban bear witness to the past, and the petrified stone waterfalls Hierve el Agua are a unique sight, and visitors can even marvel at the world's widest tree. There's more than enough to photograph in this very colourful part of Oaxaca.
