Trees-of-life and skilled potters
Metepec, a colourful town just 40minutes drive from Mexico City and near Toluca, is famous for its ceramic árboles de vida or trees-of-life. All over the town you can find workshops where the artisans make these intricate works of art using clay and some streets are lines with shops selling trees of life of all sizes and with many different themes.
One of Metepec's main sites, the Chapel of Calvario, stands on top of a hill with steps leading up to it and has views over the town below. Other places to visit are the main square, the churches and the Museo del Barro.
