Living in the clouds
In the northern region of the state of Puebla are the Sierra Norte mountains, inhabited by the Nahua and Totonac indigenous people. Cuetzalan, a charming colonial town with steep cobbled streets lined by white houses with red roofs, hosts the region's main market, and is also famous for its Voladores, "flying men", who continue to perform an ancient ritual from a 200 metre pole. Jonotla and Tlatlauquitepec are other places well worth a visit.
Due to its geographical location, cloud and mist often cover these mountains, cladding the mountainsides in luxuriant vegetation. Waterfalls, caves and hiking trails abound here, and there are also some interesting ruins.
