Silver mines and a pink church
Taxco's silver mines are no longer working but the town has maintained its whitewashed houses and red tiled roofs from Colonial days. Its most famous landmark is the pink church of Santa Prisca which stands prettily in the main square and can be seen from most places. Up on the mountain side above the town is a large Christ figure.
The Zócalo is surrounded by restaurants and shops selling, among other things, local silverware and vendors with brightly coloured balloons, crafts or dulces wander around looking for customers. The steep narrow streets are full of vochos, the VW Beetle Bugs which function as taxis here.
