Main attraction are the Chinelos dancers
The Carnival in Xochimilco is a fun and festive event, the main attraction being the Chinelos dancers. The origin of the Danza de los Chinelos goes back to 1807 when the Spaniards did not allow the indigenous people in Tlayacapan, Morelos, to take part in their Carnival festival. So the people dressed up in costumes and masks with beards depicting the Europeans and ridiculed their mannerisms in this dance.
